Times of Transition
As many of you reading this will already know, after nearly 6 years at Fulwood FM Church, I start as the lead pastor at Lancaster FM Church on 1st September.
Transitioning from one thing to another is always an interesting time. Some things stop. Some things start. Some things change. Some things excite. Some things terrify. Some things frustrate. Some things make you cry.
I have been immensely privileged to be a part of FFMC. I have learnt so much. I have been able to make mistakes, & learn from them. I have been allowed space to fly, experiment, push the boundaries (I like that part!!!) I have been introduced to some amazing people, and been taught things I never knew. Truly, I feel like I have been allowed to stand on the shoulders of giants.
That’s why I decided to preach my last 4 sermons as a series of 4 called “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.” 2 Timothy is Paul’s farewell, his passing on his heart and advice to a new pastor. It’s a great place to start, and finish – to transition. And it has been a privilege to explore what Paul was telling Timothy and discover how it is still just as relevant today. I really wanted to share my heart, share some of what I have learnt, and some of what I am trying to take with me to Lancaster. And by God’s grace, I hope I have done that faithfully.
Transition is part of life. We all do it. Butfor those of us in ministry, I am sure like me many of you want to leave a legacy and to feel that your time has been spent well, and you have produced fruit that lasts. I wonder though, how good are we at that?
Time will tell!
